OVERKILL (1984–PRESENT). Classic lineup: Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth (vocals), Bobby Gustafson (guitar), D. D. Verni (bass), Sid Falck, (drums).
One of the longest-running thrash metal bands from New York City, the four members of Overkill—vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, guitarist Bobby Gustafson, bassist D. D. Verni, and drummer Sid Falck—first came together in 1984. They quickly earned a deal with Atlantic’s Megaforce subsidiary on the basis of their pounding yet precise version of thrash metal and have subsequently gained a loyal underground following, although they have never achieved larger commercial success.
Their albums on the Megaforce label were moderate successes, with their 1991 album Horrorscope perhaps the strongest and most interesting of their releases. Moving to the smaller CMC International label in 1995, the band has continued to record and tour with a changing lineup.
