PROBOT (2004). Various performers, including King Diamond, Lemmy, Tom Warrior, Mike Dean (vocals), Dave Grohl (guitar/bass/drums).
Probot was a metal tribute record by David Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), who assembled an all-star cast of metal singers to work with him on a project where the singers added lyrics and vocals and Grohl provided the riffs and instrumentation.
Guests included Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead, Cronos from Venom, Wino from the Obsessed and St. Vitus, Tom Warrior from Celtic Frost, and many others. The one-off (so far) project gave a fresh chance for some of the cream of the thrash, death, and black metal scenes to showcase their pipes for a new generation who looked to icons like Grohl as tastemakers. The Probot project also demonstrates that the punk/metal crossover exposed many a young punk to some of the more extreme forms of heavy metal and that there were many similarities between the two genres.
