PRONG (1985–96). Tommy Victor (vocals/guitar), Mike Kirkland (bass, replaced by Troy Gregory, Paul Raven), Ted Parsons (drums).
Prong were a punk metal band from New York City led by former CBGB’s sound man Tommy Victor, who looked no farther than the door of where he worked to recruit doorman Mike Kirkland on bass, and eventually former Swans drummer Ted Parsons, to create a mathematically proficient form of New York thrashlike metal akin to bands such as early Helmet. The band toured relentlessly, and despite several good albums, never seemed to make it. Eventually Victor joined Danzig’s band for several years after the demise of Prong. Beg to Differ is the most riff-laden of their records.
