AVENGED SEVENFOLD (2001–PRESENT). M. Shadows (vocals), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Synyster Gates (guitar), Johnny Christ (bass).
Featuring an aggressive punk metal style, Avenged Sevenfold first came together as high school students in Huntington Beach, California, and consist of vocalist M. Shadows, guitarists Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates, bassist Johnny Christ, and drummer The Reverend (The Rev was found dead on December 28, 2009, at the age of 28).
After a series of albums for independent labels, 2001’s Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (Good Life), and 2003’s Waking the Fallen (Hopeless), the band got the attention of Warner Brothers Records, who released City of Evil in 2005. On the strength of the single “Bat Country” and its video, which received heavy rotation on MTV, the album made it to number 30 on the Billboard album chart.
