Dark Angel were a thrash metal band from Los Angeles that helped found the sound of extreme thrash. Their second record, Darkness Descends, is the group at their best, although Leave Scars is also a worthy testament to the band’s abilities. The group floundered for a time, and when second vocalist Rhinehart left in 1991, the band dissolved.

There are few metal bands where the drummer is the most adept instrumentalist, but Hoglan was clearly one of the best in the industry, and he went on to a legendary stint in the band Death.
