DIMMU BORGIR

Dimmu Borgir are one of the key black metal bands from Norway. They formed in the early nineties (the first EPs and first album are sung in Norwegian). The band broke overseas with Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, which made them a favorite of American fans who liked the relatively melodic black metal sound of the band. Frequent personnel changes marred Dimmu Borgir’s stability for many years, but they kept coming out with increasingly ambitious records, including Death Cult Armageddon, which was recorded with the Prague Philharmonic and strangely enough meshed well with Dimmu Borgir’s already orchestral wall of sound. The band is so well-known in death metal circles that they were parodied on the Cartoon Network show Metalocalypse as “Dimmu Burger,” a death metal burger shop. Dimmu Borgir is one of the most beloved black metal bands in the world and certainly one of the most adventurous. Drummer Hellhammer (also in Mayhem) has apparently had to leave the band recently due to an arm injury.
