MOONSORROW (1995–PRESENT). Henri Sorvali (vocals/guitar/keyboards), Mitja Harvilahti (guitar), Ville Sorvali (vocals/bass), Marko Tarvonen (drums).
Moonsorrow are an inventive Finnish heavy metal band who play in the Viking metal subgenre. Their last record, Viides Luku: Havitetty, was an epic with just two long songs each about half an hour. Henry Sorvali (also of the Finnish ban Finntroll), along with his cousin Ville Sorvali, formed the band in 1995, as a duo, before recruiting others members to fill out their sound and expand on their vision. The band engages in a wide array of styles, from your typical black and death metal flourishes to Tolkien-inspired flights of Dungeons and Dragons fantasy lyrics. The band has been one of the most consistent Finnish bands to produce engaging music with a prog tendency as well as elements of traditional Finnish music and lyrics of epic quests and deities.
